Addictions and Habits

God loves you! He knows what challenges you are facing. He has totally forgiven you for anything that you have done, and He’s not holding it against you. The Lord is a God of new beginnings, new hope. It is true that life is a battle. The enemy of your soul desires for you to be held in your addiction, but you don’t have to depend on your own power to overcome the problem. You’ll be set free as you turn to God.

Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things through Him (Jesus) who strengthens me.” Jesus has totally defeated Satan, and the Holy Spirit is right there with you to give you the strength that you need to overcome this challenge.

I Peter 5:8-9 tells us how to fight the enemy. It says, “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace…will Himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

Let’s pray together:

Dear Heavenly Father, we lift up this child of yours who is struggling in this area. We thank you, Lord, that Satan was totally defeated by Jesus on Calvary. We thank you that you have given your child the weapons to resist the devil. You have given us Your word, Your blood, Your armor, and Your Name to fight the battle. Make Your child a mighty warrior. Help them to stay alert and to stand firm against the temptations of the enemy, using the powerful Name of Jesus. Father, we thank You that they have the mind of Christ. Thank You, too, that You are protecting their mind, emotions and their body. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Further scriptures to help you:

Romans 12:1-2: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And so not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

John 10:10: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

I Corinthians 10:13: “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man, but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”

I John 1:6-10: “If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.”
