DEAR WESTMINSTER FAMILY –
Over the past few months, we have been looking at some of the various journeys that are recorded in Scripture. In the fall, we began a study in the book of Joshua and have been learning about the people of Israel and their conquest of the promised land. As we approached Christmas we examined several of the journeys that accompanied Jesus’ arrival on earth. Two weeks ago, we studied Micah 6:8 and were reminded of the importance of how we approach our personal journey.
Before returning to our study in the book of Joshua we will be looking at another well-known journey this Sunday. The story of Jonah is one of the first Bible stories many of us learned as kids. As a prophet, Jonah had the responsibility of speaking on God’s behalf, but when God sends him to the city of Nineveh Jonah decides to run in the opposite direction. The events that follow provide a remarkable look at God’s heart and His pursuit of those far from Him. Because of this, Jonah’s reluctant journey proves to be relatable to our lives today and provides valuable lessons about God, life, and faith.
As you prepare for worship this week let me encourage you to read the story of Jonah. It’s only four chapters long and will provide important background for our time together.
See you in church.
Pastor Matt
