Dear Westminster Family –

This Sunday we will focus our attention on our work as an expression of our worship. For many of us the investment of time, energy, and influence we put into work is done without consideration of our relationship with the One Who gives us time, energy, and Who wants us to use our influence to His purpose and glory. Work and worship should never become two different things. We should worship when we work and we should work when we worship.

In the beginning of the Book of Genesis we see God at work and what He created was for His purpose and glory. In the second scene we see that man and woman were placed in the garden as workers responsible to God for both fellowship and work. I love this statement from Eugene Peterson in his book, Leap Over a Wall…”When we are working well and doing good work, we are never more God-like.”

Having a good job doesn’t mean we will do it well. Having the right role in life doesn’t mean we will be righteous people. The key to living as “God-called” people is doing our work His way whatever the circumstances. Work reveals something essential about us. Through our work we express our values, articulate our morals, and act out our convictions. Most importantly through our work we honor God.

Included in our time together this week will be a special “dedication of the backpacks” and a commissioning of teachers and students as they enter into a new academic year. It should be an insightful and inspiring Sunday.

See you in church.

Pastor Gary
