DISCIPLESHIP

Discipleship is the lifelong process of transformation
to look more like Jesus in every area of life.

Before they were called Christians, Jesus’ earliest followers were called his disciples. As they experienced life with Jesus, these were people from all walks of life were transformed to be more like Jesus. Similarly, Jesus calls all believers today to be discipled in this same way in Christian community. Throughout scripture, we observe five major “roots” of discipleship for believers. We see that every disciple is a worshiper, a learner, a giver, a connector, and a witness. In the roots of a plant, the deeper the roots go down, the stronger the plant grows. In the same way, every disciple grows when we allow Jesus to grow us in these ways.

Discipleship isn’t about perfecting what we do; rather, the goal of discipleship is receiving Jesus’ invitation to be connected to him and his people (Jn. 15:16-17). The process of discipleship is a lifelong journey. Knowing that, we all have next steps to take in each of these areas as we grow as disciples.

At Westminster Chapel, our desire is to provide opportunities for every person to grow through discipleship, no matter where he or she is in their faith journey, “that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ” (Col. 1:28).
