WCKIDS WEEKLY

WC KIDS WEEKLY | 2024 – Week 4

January 28, 2024

We are concluding our unit on Jesus’ interactions with his disciples after his resurrection. The question for this unit is, “How do we know that God wants us to know Him? We can know that God wants us to know Him because He has revealed Himself through His Word.”  Our memory verse for this unit is John 17:3 (NIV), “Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.””  Try memorizing the verse as a family. (Preschoolers will memorize the bolded portion.)

This week, we will be learning about the Great Commission and what it means to be a disciple of Jesus as we look at Matthew 28 We will see that Jesus came to earth as a baby, lived a perfect life, and died on the cross for our sins. He rose from the dead and invites us into God’s family forever. God wants us to know Him and to tell others about Him, too. We are to be disciples of Jesus and to help others become disciples of Jesus.

WC KIDS WEEKLY | 2024 – Week 3

This week, we will be learning about Jesus’ breakfast with the disciples in John 21. During a conversation around breakfast, Jesus showed his forgiveness of Peter for denying him before his crucifixion, and called Peter to a new ministry. God chose to use Peter to lead others to Jesus, despite the ways he had fallen short in sin. God can choose us, too. Nothing can separate us from Jesus’s love, power, or authority over our lives. With each new day, He beckons us to lead others as we follow Him.

This week, we will be learning about Jesus appearing to Thomas in John 20. Word of Jesus’ resurrection had already begun circulating, and Jesus even made Himself known to some followers. But Thomas had not seen Jesus so he doubted that He was truly alive. When we doubt God or what He has done for us, Jesus offers us the same peace and compassion given to Thomas and the others. He likewise commissions us to proclaim the good news to the ends of the earth. Just as Thomas heard of the resurrection through word of mouth, people around us are also dependent upon our sharing of the gospel’s great news. Thankfully, we are given the Holy Spirit to help us do this.

MORE ABOUT WESTMINSTER KIDS

We believe that the more you know Jesus, the more you know what really matters! Our key verse for ministry is: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:34-35)

Martha Clay

Children’s Ministry Director

I love introducing children to the Gospel Story of the Bible and helping them become lifelong disciples of Jesus. I love the humor, the hugs, and the honesty of children.  I grew up at Westminster and found it a great place to learn and develop my faith and gifts.  My hope is that children will feel that Westminster is their church where they can learn to love like Jesus and develop their gifts.

My husband Dan and I have 3 children who are all adults now.  In my free time, I enjoy reading, history, Paris tea, puzzles, and walks with my husband Dan.
