WC KIDS WEEKLY | 2023 – Week 9

We are continuing our last unit in the Old Testament as we learn about the importance of repentance. The question for this unit is, “How should we feel when we sin? When we sin, we should feel sorry that we have disobeyed God and want to turn from our sin because we love Him.” Our memory verse for this unit is 2 Corinthians 7:10 (NIV), ”Godly sorrow (or Feeling sorry) brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.” Try memorizing the verse as a family. (Preschoolers will memorize the bolded portion.)
This week, we will be learning about how hearing God’s Word caused the people in Jerusalem to repent. God’s Word is powerful. When Ezra read God’s Word, the people loved God more and changed their ways. The Bible says that Jesus is “the Word.” Jesus is God who came to live with people on earth. Jesus has the power to change our hearts.

We have a Lent/Easter Resource sheet available that gives a variety of ideas and resources to use to learn as a family during the season of Lent. Take a look!

This week, we are looking at how Nehemiah led the Jews to rebuild the wall around Jerusalem in the face of opposition. Nehemiah led the people to rebuild the walls around Jerusalem to protect them from their enemies. Jesus came to protect us from our greatest enemies, sin and death. He died on the cross and rose from the dead to rescue everyone who trusts in Him.

This week, we are are in the book of Esther as we learn about how God used Esther to save her people, the Jews. Haman’s evil plan could not stop God. God had a plan for Esther to rescue the Jews. By saving the Jews, God made the way for His Son, Jesus, to come into the world. Like Haman, Satan wants to ruin God’s plan and destroy believers. Satan thought he had won when Jesus died on the cross, but God raised Jesus from the dead and defeated Satan once and for all. All who believe in Jesus are rescued from sin and death. That is something to celebrate!

MORE ABOUT WESTMINSTER KIDS
We believe that the more you know Jesus, the more you know what really matters! Our key verse for ministry is: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:34-35)

I love introducing children to the Gospel Story of the Bible and helping them become lifelong disciples of Jesus. I love the humor, the hugs, and the honesty of children. I grew up at Westminster and found it a great place to learn and develop my faith and gifts. My hope is that children will feel that Westminster is their church where they can learn to love like Jesus and develop their gifts.
My husband Dan and I have 3 children who are all adults now. In my free time, I enjoy reading, history, Paris tea, puzzles, and walks with my husband Dan.
