“The Church Where the Spirit Reigned” — Part Two (Acts 2:42-47)
Introduction: “……And all those who believed were together….” (Vs. 44)
What happened at Pentecost was that the remnant of God’s people became the Spirit-filled body of Christ. What evidence did this gathering of believers give of the power and presence of the Holy Spirit? Luke tells us….
I. They were a worshipping family. “….they devoted themselves to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” (Vs. 42)
A. Their worship was both PUBLIC and PRIVATE.
B. Their worship was both FORMAL and INFORMAL.
C. Their worship was both JOYFUL and REVERENTIAL.
1. It was characterized by happiness.
2. It was characterized by holiness.
3. It was characterized by humility.
II. The were a welcoming family. “….praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people.” (Vs. 47)
A. They were INCLUSIVE.
B. They were HOSPITABLE.
C. They were GENEROUS
D. They were LOVING.
III. They were a witnessing family. “…..and the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.” (Vs. 47)
A. Salvation is uniquely God’s WORK.
B. Salvation is a progressive EXPERIENCE not an EVENT.
C. Salvation happened DAILY.
