The Gift of Responsibility (Matthew 1:18-25 & 2:13-23)
“When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.” – Matthew 1:24-25.
Although often overlooked, Joseph plays an important role in the Christmas story. God entrusts to him the incredible responsibility of being Jesus’ earthly father. Through Joseph’s example we learn about the responsibilities God has given to each of us and the response necessary to carry them out.
I. God entrusts Joseph with a responsibility he could FULFILL.
II. God entrusts Joseph with a responsibility that caused him to STANDOUT.
III. God entrusts Joseph with a responsibility that resulted in an impact far greater that he could IMAGINE.
IV. God entrusts Joseph with a responsibility that required FAITH, TRUST and a willingness FOLLOW.
