“I waited patiently for the Lord, He inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog. and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. HE put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. May will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.” Psalm 40: 1-3

True patience is foreign to our self-confident nature and the “instant gratification” of our current culture. However, it is indispensable when waiting upon God. It is a key element of faith especially when we meditate on what His word teaches while we wait.

Patience is the losing of our self-will in His perfect will. As we wait, He has promised to:

Strengthen us by His might! In our weakness (vulnerability) He will make us strong.
Encourage us with hope (be of good courage.)
Patience will bring a rich reward – our faith is deepened and deliverance is sure.

If you feel that patience is not your gift, be reminded that it is God’s gift, and receive that in 2 Thess. 3:5: “Let the Lord direct your hearts into the patience of Christ.” (ASV)
