We are starting a new unit about King David this week. The question for this unit is, “What is Grace?” We will see that “grace is when God gives us something good even when we do not deserve it”. Our memory verse for this unit is Ephesians 1:7-8, In him (Jesus) we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace that he richly poured out on us with all wisdom and understanding.Try memorizing the verse as a family!

Do you have a special talent? What if God uses your talent to do something great for him?

This week, we are in 1 Samuel 16 as God chooses David to be king. David is the youngest in his family, a shepherd boy, and not an obvious choice for king. But he can play the harp and that will get him into King Saul’s court where he learns about being king and gets to do great things for God. People were surprised God chose David to be Israel’s next king, but God saw David’s heart for the Lord. When Jesus came to earth, He seemed like a surprising choice for a king. (Isaiah 53) Jesus is the perfect King who saves us from our sin.
