We are beginning a new unit on some of Jesus’ teachings and how they were about God and His Kingdom. The question for this unit is, “What did Jesus teach when He was on earth? Jesus taught about God and His kingdom. He taught that all Scripture is about Him.” Our memory verse for this unit is 1 Chronicles 29:11 (NIV), “Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.” Try memorizing the verse as a family. (Preschoolers will memorize the bolded portion.)

This week, we are in Matthew 5 as Jesus begins what we call the Sermon on the Mount. We will look at some things that are part of the character of someone who follows Jesus. We will see that “Jesus taught people what it means to follow Him. He taught how people should live. People who trust in Jesus live to honor God and show what His kingdom is like.” The character of the people of God reveals a response of faith in Him, no matter their circumstances.
