We are continuing our unit on some of the events leading up to Jesus’ arrest. The question for this unit is, “How is Jesus the perfect Priest? Jesus was the perfect sacrifice for sin, and He speaks to God the Father for us today.” Our memory verse for this unit is Hebrews 4:15 (NIV), “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.” Try memorizing the verse as a family. (Preschoolers will memorize the bolded portion.)
This week, we will be learning more about Jesus’ meal with his disciples in the Upper Room. We will see that as Jesus and the disciples celebrated Passover they remember that God’s people had broken the old covenant, and God promised to make a new covenant to forgive sins. The new covenant would come through Jesus’ death and resurrection. Everyone who turns away from sin and trusts in Jesus will be forgiven of his sins and will have eternal life. Jesus is the promised eternal Lamb of God who died in our place that we may truly live.
