We are continuing our unit on Jesus’ interactions with his disciples after his resurrection. The question for this unit is, “How do we know that God wants us to know Him? We can know that God wants us to know Him because He has revealed Himself through His Word.”  Our memory verse for this unit is John 17:3 (NIV), “Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.””  Try memorizing the verse as a family. (Preschoolers will memorize the bolded portion.)

This week, we will be learning about Jesus appearing to Thomas in John 20. Word of Jesus’ resurrection had already begun circulating, and Jesus even made Himself known to some followers. But Thomas had not seen Jesus so he doubted that He was truly alive. When we doubt God or what He has done for us, Jesus offers us the same peace and compassion given to Thomas and the others. He likewise commissions us to proclaim the good news to the ends of the earth. Just as Thomas heard of the resurrection through word of mouth, people around us are also dependent upon our sharing of the gospel’s great news. Thankfully, we are given the Holy Spirit to help us do this.
