WESTMINSTER WEEKLY

Westminster,

I hope you’re well. After our message last Sunday, Liz and I received several questions along the lines of, “where do I go from here?” This is an excellent question! I have a few thoughts in response.

First, the message could have stirred up a lot in your own story. Perhaps you have a struggle you’re dealing with or have in the past. Perhaps you suffered harm or abuse at the hands of another. If that’s the case, I want to first encourage you to talk to someone who can care for your soul. Perhaps this is one of our pastors. Maybe it’s a counselor. It could even be a trusted friend. Shame thrives in isolation, but loses it’s power when brought into the light. I think for many of us that could be a great step. Second, perhaps you want to explore this topic a bit more. I’d like to recommend a few resources that could be helpful along the way. The first is Unwanted by Jay Stringer. This book looks at the struggle with sexual sin and how one might find healing. If the message brought stirred unresolved trauma from past abuse and trauma, then Healing the Wounded Heart by Dan Allender would be a helpful read. Finally, if you are looking for a good read for your marriage, then Intimate Allies by Dan Allender and Tremper Longman is a great resource.

This weekend we will continue to our series Upside Down Kingdom, studying Matthew 5:33-37.
